Leaves Can Cause Basements to Flood
Tuesday, February 1st, 2011
If you have an areaway on the rear of your house you need to make sure the drain is clear from debris such as trash, sticks, and our fall favorite LEAVES! Yes it is true, even a few leaves lying on top of the drain is enough to allow water to seep into your house through your basement door. Also, leaves clogging your downspouts on your gutter system will cause rainwater to back up along the edge of your roof, finding its way behind your siding and running down the wall into your basement. Leaves in trees are good, leaves in gutters and covering drains is a recipe for floods and water damage, and plumbing maintence is a necessity!
